It is true that advertising currently dominates the world in which we live. There are advertisements on television, the Internet, the street, and even our mobile phones. However, many of the methods employed to promote a product or service are immoral or inappropriate.
First and foremost, the fact that we cannot escape advertising is a major source of criticism. At times, constant visuals and signs everywhere we look can be extremely intrusive and bothersome. Take mobile phone advertising as an example. Using the most recent technology, mobile companies may now send SMS promotions to consumers whenever they desire. Although we anticipate advertisements in a variety of contexts, it appears that there are currently few areas where we can genuinely escape them. I also feel it unethical that advertising encourages individuals to purchase items they may not need or cannot afford. Particularly, children and adolescents are influenced by advertisements for the newest toys, clothing, and music, and this can put huge pressure on parents to buy these items.
In addition, the advertising of tobacco and alcohol has been a contentious subject for a long time, yet many countries have just lately outlawed cigarette advertisements. It is likely that alcohol commercials encourage excessive consumption and underage drinking, even though this sort of advertising is not subject to the same prohibitions as tobacco advertising.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that advertising is an integral part of our daily life. Therefore, consumers are continually persuaded to purchase things and services that may be excessively costly, useless, or even unhealthy. In my opinion, it appears that many parts of advertising are unethical and improper in modern society.
